Silk Origami Butterfly Hair Clips by SewSmashing
I have got an interesting post for you all today as it’s about a new take on a summer favourite accessory, today’s topic is about silk origami butterfly hair clips by SewSmashing.
First of all we will quickly talk about SewSmashing so you all understand who she is and what she does, SewSmashing is the name of Alexis’ ‘ETSY’ shop. (ETSY is a marketplace for custom and handmade items) She is based out of California and yes! She ships worldwide!
SewSmashing’s products are all handmade to order with a huge range of colours that cater to all tastes and styles, she has a variety of products but for now we will only talk about her hair clips!
(Maybe more from her in the future, wait and see!) So I think that is enough of an introduction for now so on with the article!
Like I said before SewSmashing makes handmade items and in this case it is an origami butterfly, now you are all probably wondering how she makes these fantastic creations so let us explain a little bit about it, as you may or may not know origami is the art of creating shapes, animals and objects just by folding a material a certain way so with this in mind she folds her butterfly out of a few different silk sheets so that the outside colour is different from the inside. (Very clever technique!)
As she folds the butterfly she sews in specific places so it holds it’s structure, continuing to fold the rest of the butterfly she may add and sew lace in place to give the wings a more entrechat design which really sets the wearer out from the crowd! Finishing up the structural stitching she may then add decorative stitching in places to really make the final piece even more unique and special.
Lastly after all that hard work she adds the clip so that you can wear it in your hair, she offers a range of different clips from regular toothless alligator clips to french barrettes, you can specify which one you want just like you can pick from three different sizes and also the colours inside and out, truly a special piece that’s personal to you!
Now after hearing all the hard work that goes in to this beautiful clips I bet you think this will cost a BOMB! Well they DON’T! They cost around £10 or £11 each (Due to the currency exchange rate) and that’s $18 each for our US readers, which is quite cheap when you think about the care and effort that went in to these not to mention the overall quality which is very high.
We are really impressed by these as they are so simple in style but yet absolutely amazing and original! Top work from SewSmashing!
